LungeForum 2019

Fra Fredag, 25 Oktober 2019 -  13:00
Til Lørdag, 26 Oktober 2019 - 13:45

LungeForum 2019

1. Session: Biomarkers and genetics in lung disease

Chairman: Charlotte Suppli Ulrik, Elisabeth Bendstrup
Personalized medicine is an increasingly acknowledged concept in medicine with the perspective of identifying and treating patients on an individualized level i.e. aiming at treating the right patient with the right medicine.
In this session we will hear about the newest frontline science on biomarkers and genetics in COPD and also learn of the progress in genetics in interstitial lung disease during recent years.

2. Session: COPD hot topics: pneumonia and heart disease

Chairman: Thomas Ringbæk, Finn Vejlø

Pneumococcal disease is frequent and the impact of this disease is especially severe among elderly patients. Therefore, pneumococcal vaccination is recommended to older, high risk patients eg. COPD patients with FEV1 <40%. However, is this recommendation cost-effective or should the vaccination be individualized? Adult patients with bronchiectasis and IPF have to pay themselves – is that fair? Professor Nicolas Roche will give a review on this subject.
There is increasing interest in studying the interactions between pulmonary and cardiac function in COPD.
Does hyperinflation in COPD lead to reduced left heart function, even in patients with no overt cardiac dysfunction? Can pharmacological deflation reduce or abolish these effects?
How often is even mild degree of left heart failure a major contributor to what is conceived as a COPD exacerbation?
These are only a few of the questions we can discuss with our lecturer professor of Internal Medicine Claus Vogelmeier, who has a specialist degree in cardiology as well as in pulmonology.

3. Session: COPD hot topics: comorbidities, physical activity and exacerbations

Chairman: Finn Vejlø, Nina Godtfredsen

This session will focus on new and different angles of addressing the three hot topics. It is well known that there is huge variability in prevalence of several comorbidities in patients with COPD – is it therefore timely to introduce the term multimorbidity instead of comorbidity? Furthermore we will learn that there is considerable difference between physical capacity and physical activity also in patients with COPD. How do we deal with this issue in rehabilitation? Finally, is it possible in the future to predict, which patients hospitalized with acute exacerbation of COPD, will benefit from oral steroids with the guidance of blood-eosinophils?

4. Session: Oxygen therapy in chronic lung disease

Chairman: Charlotte Suppli Ulrik, Elisabeth Bendstrup
Advanced chronic lung disease is often associated with respiratory failure. The evidence for ambulatory oxygen therapy in stable end-stage lung diseases is limited. This session gives an update on the use of ambulatory oxygen in chronic lung diseases, including an update from the Danish Oxygen Register.
